Quizzes are all the rage now on social media. They’ve been popular for quite some time (how many BuzzFeed or Disney quizzes have you taken in the last few years?), but only recently have businesses started taking advantage of the power of quizzes in their marketing efforts. And powerful is exactly what marketing quizzes are: done right, they’re nearly irresistible.
You’d love to get a piece of that pie for your business, but there’s just one problem: you’ve got no clue how to create one of those quizzes! You’re in luck, though: there’s one little-known tool that businesses in the know are using to create high-converting quizzes with ease.
No coding knowledge? With this tool, that’s no problem – you don’t need to do anything other than copy and paste the embed code the tool generates for you into your website. If you’d rather share the quiz directly from the tool itself, you can do that, too…no stand-alone website necessary.
The secret tool business owners are using to create viral marketing quizzes
So, what’s the big secret?
Interact takes all the difficulty out of creating a marketing quiz. All you need to do is gather your information, upload it into Interact’s web application, then publish and share. It’s that simple!
You’ve probably already taken an Interact quiz without even realizing it. Kayla Hollatz’s brand voice quiz and Helene in Between’s blogger type quiz? They were both made with Interact.
I recently published my first Interact quiz as well: Are You Ready to Collaborate with a Developer on Your Client Projects? If you take a quick peek at the quiz, you can see that it uses my logo, my brand colors, and images I hand-picked that mesh with my brand aesthetic, so you don’t need to worry about Interact quizzes being off-brand.
How to easily create your first marketing quiz
Step 1: Do your homework
Before you open up Interact and get started, you’ll need to take a little time to gather the information and resources you need for your quiz. Here’s a list of everything you should round-up beforehand (get the downloadable checklist at bottom of post):
- Quiz title & description. Pretty self-explanatory! 😉 Try to make your title catchy and targeted; keep your description short (a paragraph is perfect).
- Questions & answers. You can’t have a quiz without the questions and answers! Start thinking about how possible answers for each question will map to your quiz results, too. There’s no ideal number of questions, but many Interact quizzes have between 5 and 8. The number of answers each question will need depends on how many results you have.
- Results. What are all the possible results quiz takers can receive? If you want to include a call-to-action after people receive their results, think about that as well. Each result can have its own unique call-to-action, or you can redirect each quiz result to a landing page if you’d like.
- Images. These are optional, but can make your quiz more engaging. You can create questions that use images as their answers, or you can add an image to your quiz’s title page and on each question.
- Branding & styles. Depending on which plan you have with Interact, you may be able to upload your logo to further brand your quiz. For best results, format your logo as a transparent PNG at 250px x 150px and less than 2 MB in size. All plans can specify brand colors and change quiz fonts (via Google Fonts).
- Opt-in information. If you want to connect your quiz to your email marketing software (and who wouldn’t?!), gather information like your logins, API keys (if applicable), and which sequences you’d like to map your results to. I created new sequences for each possible quiz result to make my emails personalized, but that isn’t necessary.

Step 2: Build your quiz
Once you have all the information and resources you need to create your quiz, you’ll go into Interact and actually build it. Don’t worry – this is the easiest part, and I’m going to walk you through every step!
- Open up Interact and log in to your dashboard (there’s a login link at the top right).
- Click the “Create new Quiz” button at the top right of your dashboard:
Create new quiz button at top right of dashboard
- Either choose one of the pre-made quiz templates as a starting point, or click the “Create Quiz From Scratch” button at the top of the page. I recommend starting with a template the first time you create a quiz; I started with the “What Kind of Blogger Are You?” template, but you can choose any of the available templates. They’re sorted by conversion rate by default, so the highest-converting quiz templates are near the top.
Select a template, or click the “Create Quiz from Scratch” button
- After you choose your template or click the create from scratch button, you’ll be inside the quiz builder. It should look something like this:
Preview of the Interact quiz builder interface
- Add your quiz styles. In the builder sidebar, you should see a tab named “Styles” beside the tab named “Content.”
Click the “Styles” tab, then fill in your information
Click the “Styles” tab, then fill in the following information:
- Background color
- Font color
- Button color – button text is always white, so make sure you choose one of your darker brand colors that makes the white button text readable
- Font type – currently, you can only choose Google Fonts for your quiz. I am fortunate enough that one of my brand typefaces is on Google Fonts, but if you’re not, choose one that’s similar.
- Logo image – depending on your plan, you may or may not be able to add your logo here; if you can, upload the logo file you created earlier.
- Enter your quiz content. Click back into the “Content” tab. You should see a few sub-sections here: Cover, Results (Personalities), and Questions. You can enter your content in whatever order you prefer, but if you did your homework earlier, it’s easiest just to follow the order of the sections. You can also reorder quiz results and questions from the Content tab, as well as setting up result redirects if you want to use those.
- Handle lead capture. If desired, turn on lead capture by clicking the toggle switch next to “Enable lead capture and data collection for my quiz” at the top of the sidebar. The builder will then guide you through setting up your opt-in form, connecting your email marketing account, and linking sequences to your quiz results (depending on the capabilities of your email software).
- Add tracking codes. Depending on your plan, you may be able to add tracking codes (Google Analytics or a Facebook pixel) to track conversions on your quiz. If that feature is available to you, I suggest taking advantage of it! Click the “Conversion Tracking” link in the sidebar; you’ll then be presented with the option to add your Facebook Pixel or Google Analytics tracking code.
Enter your conversion tracking codes (if applicable)
- To find your Pixel ID, open up your personal Ad account on Facebook or the Business Manager (if you use it).
- For personal ad accounts: Ad Manager > Pixels:
Facebook > Manage Ads > Pixels
- For Business Manager: Pixels
Facebook > Manage Ads > Business Manager > Pixels
- For personal ad accounts: Ad Manager > Pixels:
- To find your Google Analytics tracking ID, open up your Analytics account and click the Admin link in the sidebar, then click Tracking Codes in the Property section.
Where to find tracking code information in Google Analytics
You should see your tracking code ID near the top of the page:
Your tracking code ID should be near the top of the page
- To find your Pixel ID, open up your personal Ad account on Facebook or the Business Manager (if you use it).
- Change social share settings. Click the “Social Share Settings” link in the builder sidebar. Here, you can choose to change which social networks are available for shares, change the location(s) of the social share buttons, change the URL that’s used on social media when people share your quiz, change the social share heading, change the “I got” text on social shares, or disable social sharing altogether. I recommend changing at least the URL for your quiz once you embed it in a page on your website so that social traffic comes to your site instead of Interact.
- Save and publish your quiz. Make sure you save any settings you’ve changed, then hit the Publish button at the top right of the builder. You should see the embed dialog box next:
Change your settings in the embed box, then click “Copy embed code”
Change the embed settings as desired; the settings I chose were:
- JavaScript
- Embed Size: Responsive (default width and height)
- Mobile devices: Embedded
- Cover page: Enabled
- “Powered by” link: Disabled
- Once you’ve changed your settings, click the “Copy Embed Code” button to save the code to your clipboard. On WordPress, you can paste the code directly into the “Text” tab in your Page Editor (or use an HTML block if you’re using a page builder); on SquareSpace, add a new Code block to your page and paste it in there.
- Start sharing your new marketing quiz! You’re all done: all you have to do now is start sharing your quiz like crazy and watching the leads start trickling (or pouring! 😉 ) in.
